Taxes
NIE and taxes: your NIE is your NIF
On any Spanish tax form, the field says NIF — and for individuals it expects your NIE. Same number, tax role. Here is where it appears and which filings hit non-residents.
TL;DR
- For individuals NIE = NIF — same number, tax role.
- Non-resident property owners file Modelo 210 yearly.
- Companies get a separate company NIF — yours stays personal.
- No NIE → no tax filing possible; the number is the filing key.
Where your NIE/NIF appears in taxes

| ITP / VAT on purchase | Property buyers (at completion) |
| Modelo 100 — income tax | Tax residents |
| Modelo 720 — foreign assets | Tax residents with assets abroad |
