Filed your NIE and waiting? Here is how tracking actually works — what the police receipt shows, how collection lists (lotes) work, and what to expect at each stage.

If the wait is longer than expected
Over 5 working days after an in-person filing usually means a document issue — check with the filing comisaría. Consulate delays beyond 12 weeks justify a status email. On our route, message us on WhatsApp — you get a same-day answer.

Is there an online NIE status checker?
No public online tracker exists. In-person filings give a stamped receipt with a collection date; consulates respond by email. Handled applications (ours) include step-by-step status updates.
How long after filing is the NIE ready?
Legal deadline: 5 working days. Many comisarías print the certificate the same or next day.
What is a 'lote'?
A batch list some police stations publish showing which filings are ready for collection — identified by receipt number, not name.
